MATH TUTORING GRANT PROGRAM

Math tutoring plays a critical role in the success of many veterans entering higher education who face significant challenges in math and algebra. Sentinels of Freedom (SOF) is committed to making it a top priority to address this educational gap that can hinder their ability to succeed in STEM degree programs or other academic pursuits by providing math tutoring grants to Community Colleges with established Student Veteran Resource Centers (SVRC). 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Sentinels of Freedom Math Tutoring Grant Program provides $5,000 to community colleges to supplement in-person tutoring costs for post-9/11 veterans enrolled in math, algebra, or higher-level math courses. The goal is to support veterans in achieving academic success and overcoming challenges in these critical subjects.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To qualify for the grant, community colleges must meet the following requirements:

  1. Operational Student Veteran Resource Center (SVRC):
    • The college must have an active SVRC that provides dedicated support services for student veterans.
    • The SVRC must be staffed with personnel trained to assist veterans with academic, career, and personal needs.
  2. Eligible Beneficiaries:
    • Only post-9/11 veterans qualify for tutoring support under this grant.
    • Dependents or spouses of veterans are not eligible.
  3. Tutoring Program:
    • The college must offer in-person tutoring services for math, algebra, or higher-level math courses.
    • Tutoring must be provided by qualified tutors (e.g., faculty, peer tutors, or professional staff).

GRANT DETAILS

  • Amount: $5,000 per grant.
  • Purpose: To cover costs associated with in-person tutoring for eligible veterans, including tutor salaries, materials, or other direct expenses.
  • Disbursement: Funds will be disbursed upon approval of the application and signing of a grant agreement.
  • Grant Period: One academic year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and reporting compliance.
