MATT WHITE
Sergeant, U.S. Army
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from The Catholic University of America
He deployed twice to Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne Division. On his second deployment, Matt was injured by an improvised explosive device. After many surgeries, Matt’s right leg was amputated below the knee.
Before being released from the hospital, Matt started to make plans for his future. Since he had always had an interest in the medical field, Matt chose to earn his bachelor’s degree in nursing from The Catholic University of America. Sentinels of Freedom (SOF) provided Matt with financial support, mentoring, and guidance throughout his college journey.
When he was not studying, Matt spent a lot of his time participating in the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, where he learned how to help other veterans and their families navigate the legislative process.
Through SOF, Matt was introduced to Sentinel graduate Wayne Waldon. Wayne was quick to hire him as a project manager in the healthcare field for his company, Reveille Group LLC. Matt has since moved on to work where his passion lies – as the service dog program administrator at the National Association of Veteran-Serving Organizations.
Matt continues to give back and volunteers as an ambassador for Show Your Soft Side, a public service organization that aims to end animal cruelty.
