John Jae Terry

John Jae Terry

Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Navy
Juris Doctorate, Catholic University – Columbus School of Law

Jae has multiple combat deployments as a Navy SEAL including 3 to Afghanistan, 1 to Iraq, and 1 to Africa. While on foot patrol in an Afghani opium field Jae’s group was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG). Jae suffered from multiple physical injuries including severe trauma to his right leg and left arm, a hip dislocation, multiple burns, and a traumatic brain injury (TBI). His battle wounds left him with severe Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Jae would spend the next several years trying to salvage his left arm and right leg. His arm responded to the process; however, his leg did not. After 2 ½ years of limb salvage, Jae came to the decision to amputate his lower right leg.

Sentinels of Freedom was there for Jae and his family when he needed them most. His decision to continue his education at Catholic University of America’s law school would not be easy. SOF assisted with living and housing expenses and Jack Farley assisted with mentorship. Both helping Terry to achieve his dream; to advocate in guiding and shaping cyber and communication policy to help protect his community in a new capacity.
